Thank you Planned Parenthood!
I was in college and I had no medical insurance.  My parents did not have any money to give me for food at school and I did not own a car.  I developed a urinary track infection and was passing a large amount of blood in my urine. I walked to a Planned Parenthood center from my dorm in so much pain that I felt like I was going to faint.  I received the most compassionate care.  I really wish I...

Provided excellent prenatal care
10 years ago, I had recently graduated from college and was single. I had an unplanned pregnancy and went to Planned Parenthood for prenatal care. The providers — Certified Nurse Midwives — were wonderful. They really went above and beyond the standard of care during my appointments. They never mentioned abortion and I didn’t either! When an ultrasound showed I was pregnant with...

Planned Parenthood Taught my Middle School Sex Ed...
When I was in middle school Planned Parenthood came to my class and taught all of us sex ed. Like most middle school sex ed classes, we were split up by sex. The woman who talked to us gave the most clear and useful advice about periods, and when to see a doctor that I or anyone I know has gotten. It was this “Your period means that everything is working properly and that you are not...

They Were There For Me Over The Years
The first time I used Planned Parenthood, it was right down the street from my High School, and many of the girls at the school went to them for contraceptives.  I personally used them because I was sexually active and wanted to be responsible, but my parents would not let me get birth control through the military facility.  I wanted to be responsible about it.  They gave me birth control, no...

When I had no where to turn, Planned Parenthood...
In my early 20’s I had been forced into some sexual situations by someone I worked with closely. That person had many friends and connections with the higher-ups. At the time, I didn’t have health insurance. There was a small clinic on site but there wasn’t much information I was willing to share at the time, for fear of retribution from the perpetrator should he find out I had...

Planned Parenthood saved me from cervical cancer
I moved around a lot out of college & always went to Planned Parenthood because they wouldn’t refill my birth control unless you get a pap smear & I thought that was a brilliant idea.  3 years into going to planned parenthood I had an abnormal pap.  They sent me to a gynecological oncologist to make sure everything was okay.  It wasn’t; I had low grade pre cancerous cells.  2...

Planned Parenthood saved my mom
I have never used Planned Parenthood, but I thank them every day for saving my mom. I was seventeen, my mom 40, when she began bleeding more and more often. She was in constant pain, but she didn’t have health insurance (she was recently laid of during the 2008 recession) so she was unable to go to a normal doctor. So, after convincing her that her health really was important, she went to...

Planned Parenthood Saved My Life
In 1996, Planned Parenthood saved my life. Because they have a sliding scale of payment, I could go there when I was a freelancer, when I had no insurance. They found per-cancerous cervix cells, and treated me, and I could afford it. I’ve been perfectly healthy since then, but I wonder…what if there hadn’t been Planned Parenthood? What if I’d waited a few years for an...

Dr. Recommended that I "not continue" my...
He was a Christian Conservative who could not used the word abortion in making the recommendation that I terminate my high risk pregnancy. My additional complication was a huge fibroid that was putting pressure on my uterus and urethra so I couldn’t go pee without manually adjusting the position of my cervix. I went to Planned Parenthood 80 miles away to have an abortion so I could then...

PP allowed me to choose when to become a mother
I became sexually active when I was 17. I did not become a mother until I was 29. In the intervening 12 years, through the end of high school and through college, in 5 different states and across multiple entry-level jobs, Planned Parenthood was my go-to place for all well-woman care. Because of Planned Parenthood, I was able to afford reliable birth control and receive annual check ups. They even...

Planned Parenthood is there for guys too.
They were there for me. About six years ago, I had a health scare. I was in a lot of pain, incredibly scared, and I was without health insurance or money. I didn’t know where to turn. I ended up going to planned parenthood. I was able to see a doctor, get tests done, get medicine, and received follow-up care for something could have been very serious. One of the big fears then, was cancer....

Yet Another Woman VERY Grateful for Planned...
I was 19 years old, sexually active for the first time in my life, confused and wanting to know what options I had. I also had no insurance and a part time job. They examined me, instructed me on breast self examinations and gave me birth control pills. The entire time they treated me with nothing but compassion and dignity. A few years later I had irregular bleeding and pain, turned out to be...

Education of lumps
Planned Parenthood saved my life simply by educating me about my own body. When I was 15 I found a lump in my left breast, went to a specialist that I paid for who told me it “might be cancer” and I would have to wait 3 months to see someone else to get a concrete diagnosis.  I suffered in that 3 months: agonizing over weather I would lose my breasts just as I had gotten them! My...

One night I drank way too much, and I woke up and found a guy having sex with me. The next morning I went to Planned Parenthood and got the morning after pill. I don’t know what I would have done without them, since there was no way I could afford the pill.

Planned Parenthood Probably Saved My Life
Three decades ago when I was iIn my early 20s I was a student, working full time with no insurance.  Planned Parenthood was my only option for my examinations.  One exam found early stages of cervical cancer.  Planned Parenthood arranged for treatment for me at no cost. Without them, I doubt I’d be here today.  Thank you for saving my life.

Thank you for your patiences while we improve to serve you better. (I had 60+ posts sitting in the queue languishing and had to post them all at once so we could start fresh tomorrow. Hopefully we won’t have to do that again!)

As a college student over a decade ago, with little to know resources and no Heath care, planned parenthood was my only access to feminine health care. I didn’t even know that they performed abortions until last year. Why don’t we just begin a purple ribbon coalition and start fund raising for PP breast cancer research on our own! Women’s reproductive care should NOT be a...

As someone who grew up in India as the daughter of a doctor, I know the value of primary health care. I have lived in the US for 23 years now and have been a supporter of Planned Parenthood for all of those years because I know that that’s where women go to when they first need birth control or a gynecological check up. When you’re young and have no money, that’s where you go....
