I was struggling through college socially, academically, and emotionally and wanted more than anything to be a good student with a nice boyfriend and a bright future. When suspected I was pregnant, it confirmed for me my complete inability to achieve any of those things. But I had a friend who believed in me more than I believed in myself and she she told me to call my parents and to make an appointment at Planned Parenthood. When the nurse told me I could get an abortion there I could hardly believe I was being given this chance. To have a place, on an beautiful street, a bus ride away from my apartment, that I could afford that could do a safe abortion was a gift- only later did I realize it was a right. I am grateful to Planned Parenthood Metropolitan Washington for providing my abortion- though I hope someday what they do will just be called “health care”
